The 21 Songs That Rocked 2018

It seems most everyone is in agreement that 2018 was all around just a bad year (it feels like it’s been like that for the past two years, to be honest). While everyone had hoped that the orange tinted Kremlin kowtower residing in the White House would finally get what’s coming to him, nothing of the sort happened and instead the disgraceful autocrat adorer was allowed to continue his demented war on truth, decency and morality. Way to leave us with blue balls, Robert Mueller!

But hope remains, and hope is never more relevant than at the end of another year, when we take stock of the past 12 months and look forward to better things in the next year. And, as has been the custom around here these parts since 2014, we take a look at the songs that moved us last year.

As per usual, these 21 songs are ranked based on each title’s performance on the Bent*Spun 21 from the chart dated January 7, 2018 through to the chart dated December 30, 2018. Songs are ranked based on an inverse point system, with weeks at No. 1 earning the greatest value and weeks at No. 21 earning the least.

This year Canadian hip-hop megastar Drake came back with the sting of a Scorpion and is the year’s MVP with no less than 3 titles in the year-end countdown. He is followed in second place by Aussie LGBT trailblazer Troye Sivan, who placed 2 songs from his second album Bloom on the year-end chart.

And, perhaps most exciting and intriguing of all, for the first time in the chart’s short history, the top 2 songs of the year did not even reach the summit during their qualifying chart runs. Find out who they are by clicking on the arrows below.
